MASS SPECTROMETERS

The team has access to all instruments located at the Plateforme de Bio-Physicochimie Structurale (PBS facility) of the IECB, which hosts mass spectrometry, NMR, X-ray crystallography, SPR and CD instruments. Mass spectrometry instruments include:

Agilent 6560 ESI-IMS-Q-TOF

High-resolution drift tube ion mobility spectrometry, electrospray ionization, Q-TOF. Mainly used to study nucleic acid G-quadruplex and riboswitch folding in solution and in the gas phase in soft conditions (U869 research team) and for structural investigation on supramolecular complexes in the framework of collaborations (PBS facility). The drift tube is operated in Helium or Nitrogen.

Bruker solariX XR coupled to tunable UV-vis and IR lasers

Electrospray ionization and MALDI source, FTICR-MS modified and coupled to a tunable OPO laser (220 to 2000 nm) (Continuum).

Native top-down analysis (ETD, ECD, UVPD, CID) are performed on non-covalent complexes.

Electrospray ionization, 3D ion trap modified and coupled to a tunable OPO laser (195 to 2000 nm) (GWU, premiscan with ultra low divergence (ULD). The pump laser is a spectra-physics Quanta-ray pro 230-30.

The instrument is used to study nucleic acid  folding in solution and in the gas phase in soft conditions (ERC project).

Top-down analysis (UVPD) are performed on non-covalent complexes.

A high-resolution drift tube operated in Helium is coupled to the instrument. IMS-IMS-MS experiments can be performed.

We developped Mass-resolved electronic circular dichroism ion spectroscopy (Science, 2020, 368, 1465)

Waters Q-TOF Ultima Global

Electrospray ionization, Q-TOF MS/MS. Mainly used for nucleic acids and protein-ligand complexes, when MS/MS experiments are needed.

Waters LCT Premier

Electrospray ionization, home-made modified pumping system for very soft transfer of fragile non-covalent complexes from the solution to the gas phase, TOF mass analyzer. Mainly used for supramolecular complexes detection, stoichiometry determination, and quantificaiton.

Thermo Exactive

Electrospray ionization, high mass-accuracy and high resolution orbitrap analyzer. This instrument has been modified to  study fragile non-covalent complexes. Mainly used for accurate mass measurements and confirmation in organic synthesis of large compounds (PBS facility)
